Pantone has just released their pick for color of the year for 2012, Tangerine Tango.
Here’s what Pantone says about the color on their site:
The 2011 color of the year, PANTONE 18-2120 Honeysuckle, encouraged us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor. Tangerine Tango, a spirited reddish orange, continues to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward.
“Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

Color forecasting influences everything from fashion and makeup to consumer products and interior design. Expect to see lots of this dark orange in upcoming seasons. Designers such Tommy Hilfiger, Nanette Lepore, Cynthia Steffe by Shaun Kearney, Elie Tahari and Adrienne Vittadini will feature this color into their spring collections.
Sephora is partnering with Pantone to introduce the first Color of the Year beauty collection. The limited edition collection features a variety of products including eye shadow, lipstick, lip gloss, nail polish and accessories, and will be available in Sephora Americas beginning March 2012.
Dessy already offers Pantone Wedding, where you can experiment with color combos, create inspiration boards, and order swatches you can share with vendors. You can also change the color of their dresses right on the screen – very helpful!
Pantone colors are an easy and efficient tool you can use when planning an event. “Ocean blue”, for example, may mean different colors to different people but if you can provide your vendors with an exact name of the shade you love, there won’t be any surprises or disappointment.
